XP Home edition missing pci.sys, can I use XP Pro CDROM to repair?

Hi all:

Just a quick question. I have a PC that was pre-installed with XP Home
edition and recently for some reason when it boot up it will tell me
that my "pci.sys" file is missing and won't boot up in safe mode or
even to the last good setting mode. I tried very hard to find the
original XP Home CDROM (retail version) but couldn't find it. As I also
have a XP Pro cdrom, I wonder if I could use this XP Pro CDROM to boot
up and use it to "repair" my XP Home installation. Would this work?
Thanks!

No, you'll need to replace your missing Windows XP Home Edition CD.

If the WinXP Home was pre-installed, as you state, then the CD won't be
for a retail version; it'll be an OEM CD.

As I also

No, it won't, short of replacing the WinXP Home installation with WinXP
Pro. If that WinXP Pro license is a retail one, and isn't in use on
another computer, you can do this.
