I need to download the window XP home edition CD that comes with the OS - I
can't find mine... I'm trying to download the back up file for my computer.
Any one know where I can get this.

You don't download any windows OS (unless you have a MSDN Universal
Membership), at least not a legal copy.
For retail, if you have proof-of-purchase, you can work with MS to get a new
CD, if OEM, you need to work with the manufacturer who sold you the original
OEM CD (most cases it is the manufacturer of your PC).

If it was a retail license and you have proof of purchase:

If it was an OEM license, you should contact the computer's
manufacturer.

Yes. Windows XP Home edition has always been free since M$ released it in Sept 2001. The download sites are:

http://www.kazaa.com
http://www.warez.com
http://www.serialarchive.com

Some downloads might take upto 10 days so if you are using a dialup connection you might want to do a rough calculation if it is worthwhile to wait all that! The alternative is to buy from OEM/pirate suppliers who will charge you a fortune (about $15) for their time. It takes about 16 minutes to copy a CD.

Hope this helps.

I use non Microsoft products wherever possible which requires no activation.

I use Netscape 7.2 as my default browser which has everything I need for my work.
