XP Home dialup disconnection

Hello

Trying to figure out why a computer running Windows XP Home with a
dial up internet connection keeps turning off when someone dials the
telephone number.

I have added the service providers "disable call waiting" numbers to
the start of the ISP's dial up number. The disconnection continued and
now each time we test-dial the phone number from another phone line it
still disconnects the line and reboots the computer.

I have re-checked that the disabling "string" is correct many times.

Any help appreciated.

Do you have call waiting service from the phone company? If yes, double
check with them for the "string" needed to disable call waiting. Most of
the time it is *70 but can vary. Enter the necessary characters into the
call waiting setting of the connection. May need to repeat these steps and
enter the same information in the Phone/Dialing screens in Control Panel.

Thanks for your reply. Yes I have call waiting but I have entered the
string - but only in one place, so I will try your suggestion about
doing it in two spots.

Thanks
