XP Home clean install

Don

I'm planning a clean install from a retail XP Home Upgrade
CD for my Win98 system with a PIII, 850 MHz processor, 384
MB of RAM and a Gainward GeForce2 Pro 450 64 MB video
card. I have a couple of questions about preparing for the
install and what the video setup is after the install that
I hope someone can answer.

1. When you do a clean install is it really necessary to
remove the software programs that the upgrade advisor
finds are not compatible with XP or others, like virus
protection programs, that various procedures (Paul
Thurrott, Gary Woodruff sites) say to remove first? This
seems to me to be something to do if you're doing an
upgrade, not a clean install when everything is wiped out.

2. For an nVidia based video card, does XP use the
standard VGA driver for the default video driver when you
install XP? Then, you go to Gainward (in my case) or
nVidia to get the latest driver for the card and use the
*.exe file to install?

I'm just trying to get the story straight before I begin.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

1. No need to remove anything if you're planning a clean install.
2. If XP has a compatible driver for your nVidia card it will use it
otherwise it will do as you mentioned and use the VGA driver which you can
upgrade afterwards by going to the vendor website.
