XP Home boot recycling

I can successfully enter XP home edition in Safe mode but when I try
to enter normally, I see the XP opening screen but never reach the
login screen. Instead computer does a reboot and restarts the
process. I tried to do a restore it an earlier date (in safe mode)
but that did not help. Computer has been running fine for months but
just developed this problem today for no apparent reason. I have all
latest updates.

Any ideas how to break this endless loop?

The fact that things work normally in Safe Mode and not so well
in Normal Mode indicates that you have some agent in Normal Mode
that intereferes with your boot-up process. You can do this to
identify this agent:
- Physically disconnect your machine from the Internet.
- Run msconfig.exe (via Start / Run).
- Untick every item under the Startup tab.
- Tick "Hide Microsoft Services" under the Services tab.
- Untick all remaining services.
- Reboot the machine in Normal Mode.

Does the machine boot up normally? If yes then you need to
restore the various services and startup tasks singly or in
pairs until you have identified the culprit.

Please post copies of the Stop Error Reports.

Disable automatic restart on system failure. This should help by
allowing time to write down the STOP code properly. Right click on
the My Computer icon on the Desktop and select Properties, Advanced,
Start-Up and Recovery, System Failure and uncheck box before
Automatically Restart.

Do not re-enable automatic restart on system failure until you have
resolved the problem. Check for variants of the Stop Error message.

An alternative is to keep pressing the F8 key during Start-Up and select
option - Disable automatic restart on system failure.

Hope this helps.
