Boot problem

I have an HP desktop about a month old. It came Office Ready but I did not
want 2007 so I uninstalled 2007 and anything to do with SQL. I installed
2003. Now. when the boot process gets to the point where the user can login,
it reboots--same in safe mode. However when I F8 and use Last know good
configuration, it boots up OK. But then when I restart normally, it goes
into the endless reboot loop. I also turned off the restart option to get a
bsod but it does not bsod, it just reboots.
Any ideas ?

Try booting up in Last Known Configuration then do a System Restore to
a point in time before you had your problem

Start->Programs->Accessories->System Tools->System Restore

I think you did the wrong thing by dropping Windows 7. Apart from this, what
exactly do you mean with "I uninstalled 2007"? Did you format the disk or
did you install Server 2003 over the top of Windows 7?

If I understand you correctly, you have a new computer with an
unspecified version of Windows that was pre-loaded with a trial version
of Microsoft Office 2007. I understand uninstalling the trial version
of Office 2007, but what do you mean by "anything to do with SQL?" If
you just went through the disk deleting random files because you thought
they might have some relation to SQL, your best bet is to boot into
whatever works, copy all your data files to some external medium, and
then use whatever mechanism HP supplied to restore the computer to its
out-of-the-box state.

As you can see from the earlier posts, people have difficulty
understanding your situation. For more focused help, please provide a
more detailed explanation of your system and what you did to it.

Always state your full Windows version (e.g., WinXP SP3; WinXP 64-bit SP2;
Vista SP1; Vista 64-bit SP2; Win7; Win7 64-bit) when posting in a forum or
newsgroup. Please do so in your next reply.

What anti-virus application or security suite is installed and is your
subscription current? What anti-spyware applications (other than Defender)?
What third-party firewall (if any)?

Has a(another) Norton or McAfee application ever been installed on the
computer (e.g., a free-trial version that came preinstalled when you bought
it)?

Not Windows 2007, Office 2007. I did not delete anything randomly, I used
add/remove programs to uninstall Office 2007 and all items listed having to
do with SQL. I did that because I was getting a warning that SQLDUMPER could
not initialize.
Yes, some people do not want W7 because they don't want to replace or
upgrade certain apps crucial to their business even if they are old apps.
I have decided to reinstall XP and start over.
You may be onto something with the anti-virus question. The user had let
theirs expire which may have caused this to begin with. I was just surprised
when Last Known Good Configuration would let me boot up normally but then not
being able to boot into WXP normal mode. I also did try to do a restore
point to a dat before this started but it still rebooted endlessly.

I said nothing about "Windows 2007" nor is there such an animal.

You may be onto something with the anti-virus question. The user had let
theirs expire which may have caused this to begin with.

I have decided to reinstall XP and start over.

Wise choice!

Back-up any personal data (none of which should be considered 100%
trustworthy at this point) then format the HDD & do a clean install of
Windows. Please note that a Repair Install (AKA in-place upgrade) will NOT
fix this!
