Charlie

I have installed XP home about 6 times. This last time (and once before) I
get the "click user" choice to log in. I don't know what I did different on
the install but I would like XP to boot up directly to her username without
this choice option.

It is my wife's computer and we have no need for different users.

The last time this happen I followed someone's advice by changing the
profile. Afterwards, I was locked out from even booting up.

Looking for an easy to follow instructions in having her computer boot up
without clicking her username.

Thanks in advance,

Charlie

Charlie,

Solution 1:

Click Start, Run and type "control userpasswords2", and click Ok.
Uncheck "Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer" option, and click Ok.

Solution 2:

Obtain and install the Windows XP version of TweakUI.

Download it from here:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/downloads/powertoys.asp

Open TweakUI (it's in Start -> Programs -> Powertoys for Windows XP).
Expand the Logon branch, and click Autologon.
Turn on the Log on automatically at system startup option, type your username and password, and click Ok.
