XP Home and Remote Desktop

I have a 2 PC LAN, both using XP Home SP1.
I use RealVNC to access and control/adjust the client PC.
I presume the XP Remote Desktop is only available in XP Pro?
Does anyone of any way to speed up the VNC connection.
The LAN uses a Netgear 100Mbps dual speed hub.
 
Thanks for the info, a significant improvement on RealVNC.
