XP Home activation stuck in a loop

S

Steve G.

I got a message saying my grace period for activation has
expired. But when I click to activate I get a message
saying Windows is already activated, click OK to exit.
This is because I already activated it earlier. But I
keep on getting the prompt saying my grace period for
activation has expired. I am afraid that I will not be
able to get back into windows if i restart my computer.
Can you please help me out of this loop?

Install an OS that is not purposefully designed to disable itself.

Always thought ya'll were a bunch of hard-ons. And not all of your OS's are
PA-disabled. W2K is a much better OS than XP. More stable, less bloated,
and not a slave to PA.

Force the matter so it really appears not activated. Start - Run -
regedit.exe and open to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT
\CurrentVersion\WPA Events

In the right pane, double click OOBETimer and very carefully *change*
the first byte - say to 00

Now get on the net and then go to Start - All Programs - Accessories -
System Tools - Activate Windows and you should be able to 'activate on
the internet' with it going through in a few seconds. If it does not
work, you will have to use the alternate 'activate by phone' - a minor
hassle
