I'm unable to access Help and Support on my XP Pro system. When I try I get
an error message saying it's not available because the Help and Support
service is not running, and that I should start the service. However, when I
go to services it is not listed so I can't enable it. I just got done doing a
repair install last week to fix some file corruption problems I had, so I
don't think a system restore is going to help much.

Thanks for your help, Wes. Yep, the registry key file I downloaded restored
my Help and Support service and I'm back in business. I'm not sure why it was
missing. The repair install I did last Thursday was from a slipstreamed XP
Pro & SP2 CD that I have used before with success.

I'm really aggravated over not finding what I needed in the Knowledge Base!
I'm so annoyed that a search of "Help and Support missing" did not return the
link I needed to solve this. Scheesh! Well anyway, you nailed it for me,
Wes. Thanks a bunch!

Take a look at Kelly's site, http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/top10faqs.htm
Why doesn't Help and Support work?

Bob,

Ours it not to reason why...

Keep having fun. :-)

Yeah, I looked at it, Rock. It really didn't answer any questions for me. I
had just used Remote Assistance a couple days before I had to make a repair
install, and it was working fine. Every time I used "Find" in the Registry
Editor I got a blue screen, so I ran a repair install to re-write files which
solved my blue screen problem. My discovery that Help & Support services was
missing didn't come until this afternoon when I needed it to help out a
client. I used the SP2 slipstreaming instructions on the Eldergeek website
to create the CD I used for the repair install and didn't know I had a
problem until this afternoon. Or maybe it's just one of those typical MS
bloopers that we've all come to know & love! :-)

Anyway, thanks for your feedback!

I see that Wes' resolution worked. Glad it's fixed.
