Hi, Guys!

My XP hangs everytime I start it up. I power it off and then turn again.
Before scan disk there are messages that appear. One of which is
"....\ActivityLog...Firts Allocation Unit is not valid. The entry will be
truncated". PC was originally Win98 SE and I was not able to upgrade my file
system to NTFS. It still FAT32. What's wrong? Do I have to convert to NTFS
and if ever I do, will I lose my files? Please help. Thanks a lot!

Did you spell that error message verbatim?

Hi. Thanks for the prompt reply. I just can't get the exact error message
because it was lengthy. But the message says that the first allocation unit
is invalid and scan disk will truncate it. I was able to get the part of the
message as follows:

...XX\Activity Log\ XX\ and after it's done another line appears
....XX\WINNT\XX the first allocation unit is not valid. I guess I have an
incomplete details of the problem. Sorry but the pc's too fast to change
screen. Thanks for the help.

Do you have a backup of essential data? If not slave the drive in
another computer that can read Fat32 and save the data.

Have you run a chkdsk on the drive?
