XP hangs at World Map

I have a IBM T23 with Windows XP Pro loaded, the machine recently did an
automatic Checkdsk and ever sence on startup it hangs at the World Map Page
with the Time Zones and the IBM Logo in the upper right and goes no further.
Can anybody help me?

You might rerun chkdsk by accessing the "advanced options menu," press F8
key after rebooting, and select "Safe Mode with Command Prompt." Enter
"chkdsk /f" and see if that helps.
