Moved C drive of old computer to new system as D:. I know
it needs to be reactivated to the new hardware but I
expected it to boot and tell me so. I get a blue flash
and a reboot instead. Primary line of multiboot is XP-Pro
and it works fine.

Sue, rt click on MyComputer>select Manage>Disk Management. See if
your old drive shows up there
If yes then assign it a drive letter by rt clicking on it.

Sue, you can't just move a hard drive with an operating system to a new
computer and expect it to work. The hardware is different and when XP
was originally installed, the installation was based on the specific
hardware. At the minimum you will need to do a repair installation.
Make sure you have a backup of all the data you can't afford to loose.
Make sure you have XP compatible drivers for all the hardware in your
new system.
