Hi,

I just bought a new PC in Switzerland and upon first boot
I had to go through the XP family edition setup process.
During this I only had the choice of one of the 3 official
languages of Switzerland (not too surprising). I chose
French as it's the only one that I have any understanding
of.

Now, can I change the language to English, or am I stuck
with French?

Will I have to pay for another license if I want to have
my error messages in English?

Thanks for any help?

Is English one of the "three official languages" of Switzerland? I think
not. Presumably you could change it to one of the other two languages but if
you want English, you'll have to acquire a copy of WinXP in English.

I suspected as much but it was worth checking out. Thanks
for the confirmation. Maybe I'll just improve my French a
bit more...it'll be cheaper.

Yes, you are stuck with french, unless you buy an english version of XP. And
if you do that, you have to do a full (clean) install (AFAIK), as it would
be a language mess up otherwise....

Not sure what happens with swiss versions but only english language versions
can use other languages. And only large companies can buy the extra files
from MS not ordinary people.

You can only get to an English base by buying and installing a *full*
English copy
