XP goes to sleep

Although I have disabled every power saver, hibernate control and screen saver I can find, I still have problem. Symptoms are that desktop running XP works normally until I leave it alone fo about 5-10 mins. Then only thing that works is mouse pointer. CTL-ALT-DEL has no effect, power off button not working; screen shows last screen; ALT-f4 no effect; disk still spinning and on board card reader still being polled. Only way out is to hit reset and then all OK until I leave iy alone again
I have made no hardware changes, have installed all Microsoft updates and in desparation have even reloaded from recovery disk
Any ideas??

Try safe mode to see if the problem replicates. if it doesnt stop/close the
auto start apps including those shown in task bar. Add them in, one at a
time to locate problem one.
