Xp Freezing

Hi everyone. Just recently Windows XP has begun
freezing nearly every time it tries to shut down. I've
scanned the computer numerous times with Norton
Antivirus, and I've eliminated any spyware using spybot
search and destroy. I dont know what else to do, other
than formatting the HD and starting from scratch, any
help would be great.

If it is during the shutdown procedure, then it could be that a program or
driver on your computer is conflicting or corrupt and is not allowing it to
be shut down. Have you tried to do the process of elimination with the
msconfig utility tool within windows xp?
