Here's my problem.... When I boot Windows XP comes up then goes to opening screen (user screen). Click on user then message "Explorer.exe-Unable to Locate Component- This application has failed to start because SHDOCVW.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem" then it goes to the screensaver and freezes. I've tried to boot in safe mode, same message. Tried boot disk, same message... I can open up task manager, but nothing is running and can't go any where from there. Please, please I need help... Anyone. Any help would be greatly appreciated.. Thanks Shelly

I found it and it works!

1. login to Windows
2. Click past the error until you only have the background
3. Press Ctrl+Alt+Delete, select Task Manager
4. On the Applications tab click on New Task
5. Type in "cmd"
6. Type "cd \" at the command prompt to get to c:
7. Type "cd WINDOWS\system32\dllcache"
8. Copy shdocvw.dll to the windows32 directory with the command "copy shdocvw.dll ..\"
9. Reboot the computer

I am experiencing the same issue. I originally received an error like
this:

Explorer.exe - unable to locate component
Failed to start because SHDOCVW.DLL was not found

I hit ok for the error message and was on a blank desktop, no explorer
open. Hit CTRL-ALT-DEL to bring up task manager, ran MSCONFIG and
expanded the SHDOCVW.DL_ and EXPLORER.EX_ from the winxp cd to
c:\windows folder and this took care of the error message. NOw when I
reboot I get no error message and no explorer. Just a blank desktop.

Someome please help!
