XP freexes during laptop install

Purchased Windows XP Home edition to install on a Seger notebook/laptop PC (PC purchased in March 1999)
Seger has a Pentium II with 128MB of RAM and plenty of free disk space - about 4GB. Processor speed is 366MHZ. I am trying to upgrade from Windows 98 to XP Home edition, but XP freezes after copying the installation files, rebooting, and starting the actual installation. I get the Windows XP logo window as it starts this actual install and the "dots" in the status bar go from right to left one time and stop at the right with the install freezing
Any help would be greatly appreciated

First, XP will need twice as much RAM and second, maybe
you will need to check the hardware compatability list to
see if it can be installed on that particular laptop.
