XP Folder Template & Thumbnail woes

I'm baffled...

My folder templates continually (and seemingly randomly)
change themselves. For example, I might set a folder
template as "Pictures" only to return and find that it's
template has changed to "videos" or "music".

Also, the thumbnail images I choose to display on the
folders also change themselves to other images seemingly
at random.

Any help would be most appreciated. 8)

XP by default only remembers the folder setting for 400
folders, above this and folders appear to revert at
random to the default settings.

line 2 increase folder views size limit to 8000 for a fix.
