I just enabled the built in firewall before leaving for
work. I did not have time to loook around for the control
that will let me configure the firewall.
2 questions

1. Where is the controller fot this firewall?
2. What are the optimal settings?

I have never needed a firewall in the past and don't know
much about them.

Any advise would be greatfully accepted.

TIA,
Bill

Bill, in XP home, the firewall seems to be "one size fits all," from what I
can see.
Bear in mind that the XP firewall is not a full-featured firewall, and does
not monitor outgoing activity, which may occur if you encounter a virus.

For a more user friendly firewall download the free
version of Zone Alarm. (www.zonelabs.com) If anything
attempts to access the internet from your machine you
will automatically be notified and asked if you want zone
alarm to allow access. It will also block hackers from
attempting to gain access to your pc.
Before installing zone alarm make sure you disable the xp
firewall. Conflicts can occur if you attempt to run two
firewalls on your machine.

Hope this helps

Hi Bill,

On the advanced tab of the connection properties where you found hte option
to enable the firewall, you will also find a "settings" button near the
bottom. Basically, the defaults are usually fine unless you have a specific
configuration issue to address.
