I have a new PC with Windows XP Home edition that was
purchased yesterday and it was running fine until today
when I attempted to add a 256MB Kingston DDR RAM stick to
the existing memory of 128MB. After the install I got
the following error:

Error code: 0x80004005

A problem is preventing Windows from accurately
checking the license for this computer.

I removed the memory to go back to the original
configuration and got the same error. Also, I booted to
SAFE mode and reloaded the last known good configuration
prior to the memory install.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hello,Robert

Let's try to help you out of the problem.

You have bought a new computer a short time ago,and you
have add some mem to it.
Then the problem came.

I hope your computerstore has deliverd your system with
windowsXP Home with servicepack1 included.
If not maybe then is this a bug in WindowsXP without sp1
why the problem came.

There are differend ways why this problem has occured.

Maybe the system has altered the bios of your computer
without your notice when you have placed your 256MB
Kingston DDR RAM stick in it,so that windows had a
problem to identify your new memorycard or windows had
found a completely new system so you have activate
windows again.

One advise is to take a look in your bios if there where
some changes.
If so try some different settings.
Maybe your computer will then work again.
If your computer works again, then put your 256MB Kingston
DDR RAM stick back in place.
Try to reboot windows and if there is an option try to
activate it again i hope your problem is then solved.
If not try to call Technicalsupport or visit your
computerstore to tell the dealer your problem,i hope he
can help you out.
I wish you good luck with your computer.

Best regard,

Merijn Verteeg
