I can help with some books and training: www.sjjmicro.com. Eval versions of
the tools can be downloaded from msdn.microsoft.com/embedded. You will have
to talk to a Microsoft distributor about get the real tools and licenses.

Hi Sean:

I am actually similar to the previous poster. We would like to create
embedded DVRs. I am actually playing with the XPe development tools
(evaluation) in conjuction with your book (on ch 6 component designer).
I originally skipped to chapter 8 (after chapter 5) because I wanted
to try booting up with an image.

I was wondering, what type of motherboards are out there. I am under
the assumption that there are motherboards out there with some sort of
ROM chip where the embedded XP image resides and boots from. We would
only supply a harddrive for storing video data, etc.

Is it possible you could point me in the right direction.

Thanks,

Ryan Kennedy

LOL. You forgot to mention all the tons of other grief and jumping
through hoops required to develop with XPe. If only it were just "a
talk". It took our company nearly a year to get things sorted develop
with XPe..

Any PC can be used for XPe. There are embedded board manufacturers that are
a little higher in price but the quarantee the same board for 10 years.
Other systems like the Via EPIA M are cheaper and meet most requirements.
Since XPe is a disk based OS, you wont find boards that have ROM in XIP
space. Typically, you boot from CF via IDE or USB flash disk.
