xp download error

i get a c:\docume~1\owner\locals~1\temp\exe error when I try to upate files
like iPod, adware, etc. The exe files it gives an error with vary but bottom
line is that I cannot dowlaod/update things. Help! have service pack 2, xp
home edition, antivirus in check

start/run, type %TEMP% and remove all, then restart.
