XP downgrade nvidia grafic driver to v52.16

Using XP and Nvidia grafic driver version > v52.16 for the last 8 month.
Recently updated to v61.77 without any problems.
If I visit Windows update every time I have to answer no in order not to
downgrade to nvidia v52.16.
Yesterday the automatic update was activated and suddenly XP had downgraded
the nvidia driver to v52.16.
1) Why is this 9 month old nvidia grafic driver v52.16 still the latest
Microsoft verified nvidia driver?
2) Do I have to deactivate automatic update in order NOT to have the nvidia
driver downgraded (again)?
3) Are there any known problems using higher nvidia driver versions than
v52.16 with XP (61.77)?

Sincerely

Drivers on the windows update site do NOT get downloaded unless you select
them.
I have the v5 windows update and no driver are downloaded
auto....................
THEY have to be selected.

August.

I have been using 61.77 for awhile, no problems. I installed SP2 since
upgrading to 61.77, no problems.
I do not get drivers from the Windows Update page, I use the manufacturers'
sites. With the new V5 Windows Update I check for updates daily, no
automatic updating, and keep the older version of Nvidia drivers hidden.

That wouldn't make a difference as even when WHQL drivers are installed, it
still displays it's own Microsoft-NVIDIA version drivers on Windows Update

In any case, Automatic Updates only downloads and installs critical updates,
and drivers aren't critical udpates.

still, though, the graphic drivers suggested by microsoft
should either 1. be updated often, at LEAST monthly
(they're probably not looked at for up to 2 years at a
time) or 2. completely removed altogether.

I will no longer download drivers from Windows. I did a NVIDIA driver
from Windows and it screwed up my display. Had to do a 'fall back'.
Always get drivers from the manufacturer.
