it is a complex situation
to downgrade a computer
from vista to win xp.

what you might want to
do is to contact customer
service at hp and ask them
if your computer (model no)
is win xp compatible.

they are the absolute experts
on your computer and can
tell you yes or no.

if yes, then you are in good
shape.

if not, then we cannot do
anything to help because
the physical hardware inside
your computer was not
engineered for winxp.

the same is true for many
winxp computers and the
cannot be upgraded to be
vista ready.

if customer service says that
your computer is winxp
ready, then my suggestion is
to "not" uninstall vista since
it came with your computer
and you also paid a lot of money
for its license.

instead my suggestion would
be to buy another harddisk
and install it as a slave on your
computer then install winxp
onto that new harddisk.

keep in mind that though
vista and winxp come from
the same maker, they are two
distinct programs/operating
systems. therefore you need
to keep the operating systems
on separate harddisk.

there will be people that say
you can have both o.s.'s on one
disk. however keep in mind that
they are experts and know how
to configure a computer.

my suggestion about installing
winxp on a secondary disk is a
simple method that would
be easy for you to utilize.

there is also another consideration
that you may not be expecting,
but winxp now has sp3.

i strongly suggest that if you
are planning to buy a winxp
cd, then you should wait for
winxp sp3 to be on store shelves,
unless you know someone or
know how to slipstream the sp3
update file from microsoft.
