Is it possible to have a system running Windows XP Home
connect to a domain network?
And is it possible to also log a domain username under XP
Home?

A XP HE PC cannot join or log into a domain; you need XP PRO for that.
It can access individual resources on the domain, by supplying the
credentials at each access, but that can be a PITA.

Depends on the program you want to access the resource. For IE, for
example, point your browser to the node you want to browse, and you
will be presented with a Login box with a space for you to enter the
Username and Password.
