So, I've upgraded to XP, but when I run dxdiag, it claims my video card
(Geforce4 MX4000) does not support Direct3D. Funny, it worked in 98.
Windows update made me download hundreds of megs, but didn't fix the
problem. Ready to upgrade back to 98, which worked fine on this exact same
hardware.

Re-install your video driver or grab an update from whoever the vendor is ATI or Nvidia

Install the appropriate "Chipset" driver package for your motherboard
before adding the specific video driver for your card.
