XP and video cards that support dx 10

A basic question: I am upgrading and would like to know if video cards that
support dx 10 will work with XP SP2? The dilemma is; do I go with a lesser
video card or upgrade to Vista (which I would really prefer not to do at this
time). I have no idea.

As long as there are XP drivers available for the card it should be fine.
Upgrading the power supply to support the new card might be more of a
practical concern. (by the way, Vista can run without a DX10 graphics card)

You'll have to check with the video card maker first.

As other have said, what version of DX a video card supports does not
matter. What really matters is what version of DX drivers your OS
supports.

DX10 cards will work with all versions of DX (7, 8, 9, 10). If you
are running DX now, run DXDiag (you should place a shortcut in your
System Tools folder) and do the DX tests and you'll see it starts with
DX7 test and works up.

By the way, DXDiag will allow you to save a text file of all the info
including the tests run. Suggest you do that then print it for your
records, good for troubleshooting if your system crashes. Same for
System Info, save and print results.

Microsoft has previous stated that DirectX (DX) 10 will not be made
available in XP.
