XP does not see router

Upgraded from 98 to XP and suddenly XP no longer sees the
linksys router.Hooking the computer up directly to the
modem works. I tried a laptop running XP and everything
worked. I pulled the router and put it on another computer
and it worked. For some reason this computer cannot see
the router. I know the router works as I tried it with 2
other computers. I've tried static IP pointing directly to
the router without luck. There is nothing in ipconfig when
hooked up to the router since it can't get through to get
an IP when using the default settings. How can I force XP
to "see" the router?

Have you run the XP Network setup wizard?

Hope this is useful to you. Let us know.

Did not run the network setup wizard. Did run "Create a
network connection" within Network connections in control
panel. Are we talking about the same thing or something
different?

Did that. The error message, "Router not connected" keeps
coming up. It has to be something with XP.
