xp dlink printserver can't print

I followed to the letter the instructions on d-link page
to add the printserver on an XP computer, no errors were
encountered. It simply won't print.

Basically I went to Printers/Faxes -> Add New Printer
Chose Local Printer, created new TCP/IP port
Entered server's IP address (double checked it with
PSAdmin) and left the Port name as it self-wrote it.
I used the HPLJ4 driver that comes with XP.

That's about all that's required.
I tried once to put in a Queue Name of text, that didn't
help.

Please help - there are 6 new PCs in the church and no-
one can print now! The print just 'fails to print'. I've
reset PCs and printserver.

2 other items of interest I forgot to list:
We are using XP Home Edition
The print server showed up under Network Neighborhood
onWin98; it doesn't show up under XP. Why? Perhaps this is
the whole problem!

I have had similar problems with my Dlink Print server, I fixed it by
installing NETBEUI.

Checkout Microsoft Knowledge Base Article 301041 for instructions on
how to install NETBEUI in XP.

Hope this Helps

Is the printer connected to your computer? If so, make
sure that 'sharing' is enabled. Try start, control panel,
printers & faxes, click on printer icon, and then on left
side click 'share this printer'. Then right click on
printer icon, properties and sharing.

Otherwise -- Do you have a gateway? Or go to gateway
support online and search for printing troubleshooter. It
will give you a set of questions about what problem you
have, then offer suggestions to remedy it, then will ask
if you were able to fix it and if you reply 'no' it gives
another set of questions & suggestions - kind of a
process of elimination while it narrows it down to your
particular situation. Even if you don't have gateway, you
may be able to find something that helps.

Have you checked your printer server properties? Two
placed to go - click on printer icon, then go to file,
server properties and check the various settings. Or
right click printer icon, then properties and try
printing a test page.

Do you get an error msg when you try to print? If you do,
try entering that msg into a Help search - maybe
something will pop up.

Good luck,
Beth
