XP disc check

Hal

Sometimes the disc check in "C" drive, properties, tools
etc; runs and finishes. Other times it stops and a
message appears "Windows was unable to complete disc
check". I make sure nothing is open or running when I run
disc check and do all other mantainence includind defrag.
Whu is this happening and how do I fix it? Thanks. Hal

Disk chk doesnt or shouldnt run in explorer on C: drive,it needs
to run specifically on reboot (as nothing else is running). How or
why it is trying to is self-defeating the utility.Try going to run, type:cmd
in cmd type:CHKDSK C: /F Agree to the restart,then type:EXIT
Restart computer. In cmd you can run:CHKDSK C: However its in a
read only mode,no repairs are made.
