Error-Checking

G

Guest

I've been unable to perform the Error-Check function. I go to My
Computer>Properties>Tools and select Error-Checking. I get the standard
message that Windows needs exclusive use of files, so I select "yes" to
scheduling a check on the next start-up. On the next start-up, before it
checks the drive, a message stating that the check disc has been cancelled
appears. This has been happening about a month now.

Thanks for any help you can provide.

Please post the exact text of the message rather than your interpretation
of what it means.

Also look in the System log of Event Viewer and see if there are any
Warning or Error Reports arising during the time taken to boot. Please post
copies.

You can access Event Viewer by selecting Start, Administrative Tools,
Event Viewer.

HOW TO: View and Manage Event Logs in Event Viewer in Windows XP

A tip for posting copies of Error Reports! Run Event Viewer and double
click on the error you want to copy. In the window, which appears is a
button resembling two pages. Double click the button and close Event
Viewer. Now start your message(email) and do a paste into the body of
the message. This will paste the info from the Event Viewer Error Report
complete with links into the message. Make sure this is the first paste
after exiting from Event Viewer.

Hope this helps.
