I have windows XP. On my desktop, I have about four
inches on the left of my screen taken up with a task
folder that goes from top to bottom of my screen. I can
not get this off of my desk top. Can you provide any
ideas?

If its just a little bar that shows the content of a
certain folder, then just right click it and press "Close
Toolbar"
Is this what you mean?

Not really. This is a task folder that goes from the top
of the screen to the bottom. Right clicking on it does
nothing. And the folder seems empty. I've been trying to
figure out how to get it off of my desktop.

Visit my web site, www.dougknox.com and go to the Windows XP Fixes section.
Follow the link for Remove Common Tasks from Desktop. This small VB Script
utility will modify the System Registry to remove Common Tasks from your
Desktop.
