XP Defrag insanely slow

In the "performance" screen - it shows that defragging uses only 2-4% of my
system (512 RAM) to do any defragging.
I would have assumed that defrag would use one hell of a lot more than that.
It also leads to long pauses, where I really don't know if it's locked or
doing something.

Any way to set/ reset it?

see that your pagefile/virtual mem
is min = 2 and max = 1152. Use
"custom" if not..
