yes thank god I'm not the only one. Same set up vista on laptop xp on pc ,
pc shows on network map but not on network page. microsoft sight no help at
all. Phoned up told to contact computer manufacturer who of course suggested
it was a software problem

Your problem is with the peer to peer resource directory, known as the computer
browser (which isn't the same as Internet Explorer). If you decide to un
install Network Magic, we can work on the problem itself. With Network Magic on
the computer, any diagnostics that we might look at will be un predictable.

1 set up an ad hoc network on both computers
2 choose this network on vista computer ,you can now access xp computer (but
probably not internet)
3 on vista computer right click on xp computer icon and create shortcut to
desktop
4 change network back to original router network(you can now access the
internet again)
5 click on xp computer shortcut icon on vista computer and you should have
access to xp computer

it worked for me

5 click on ic

I have used microcomputers since apple II, XT, 286,486... etc... So I spent
a lot of time on these hardwares and their OS. Since Windows for Workgroups
in 90s it was very easy to connect one PC to another. I really don't
understand how Microsoft is not paying attention on this Vista network issue.
I just bought a vista notebook and I have the same problems I read in this
forum. I can't access the XP computer, only see it in the full map. One thing
surprises me: only regarding to this message there are 23 posts since
April!!!! And there is no solution!!! I always tried to defend products from
Microsoft but now I am giving up. I am already using firefox instead of IE7,
looking at openoffice and... why am i have to spend so many time on Vista?
Because the notebook already came with this. I wish I bought at least a XP
one. Is there any sense of urgency in Microsoft software development team in
order to solve this issue? Sorry for being honest but this is my feeling
about all of this.

Ok, here's another nail in MS coffin !

I had NO problem between my laptop running Vista & the desktop running
XP Pro till yesterday. Today, my sync software works fine my printer
is printing my XP machine too is visible in the Vista Network MAP but
I cannot see it in my "Network", it just vanished like MS support guys
have on this ongoing issue !

Everything seems to work, if I try and open my shared folders on the
desktop via Vista's explorer they are not accessible but behold, if I
type \\desktop\documents they indeed are accessible and work just fine
same goes for all the shared folders on my desktop. Guys try it may be
it will work for u guys too.

So in reality alls fine but visibility and double click usage that
come with this visibility, why ? Now thats what I want answered !

Hope Mr Gates is listening.....
