XP Compatibility Issue

I just have a couple quick questions. My CD-R and DVD-ROM drive drivers
have been corrupted. Those drives uses XP's default drivers found on disc 1
of XP's installation discs. Unfortunately, I misplaced my XP discs, however
my dad has a seperate XP installation disc (different offical registration
number). My questions are:

1.) If I use my dad's installation disc would it completely re-install
Windows in favor of the new serial numbers?

2.) Or could I just reinstall those drivers from that installation disc
without reinstalling Windows?

Thank You,

Go into Device Manager and right click each cd drive then unintall or
remove.
restart the computer and XP will re-install the drives.
