XP Cached username\password not working - help!

Hello there. Windows XP Pro system that accesses a
network managed by Active Directory. All of a sudden, while disconnected from the
network, using a laptop, Windows won't accept the cached
username/password/domain. Just to be clear here, you
should always be able to login with
username/password/domain (not local machine) because
Windows caches that info so you can log in even when you
are not connected to the network. Windows says either the
password or
domain are incorrect. However, I am the pc tech for my
company and I have verified that the
username/password/domain are correct. In fact, I am able
to log into the machine as domain administrator using
cached username/password/domain. Just to be sure I logged
on with the username/password/domain on another machine

Hi, pd -

Is the problem specific to this user? Can other users
(non-Domain Admins) use cached credentials on this
machine?

The first thing I'd look for is a domain policy that
restricts the number of cached logons. It's possible
domain admins are exempted from that policy. The default
number of cached logons on an XP Professional machine is
ten - a domain policy may have set that to zero.

Failing that, I'd say the user's profile was probably
corrupted. I'd copy the user's profile to a safe place,
create a new profile for the user and then move their
data back.

Hope this helps -
