XP/Broadband Start-up

If I switch on my broadband modem before booting up my PC, it re-starts once
the desktop appears. This is a continuous cycle. However, if I leave the
modem off, the PC boots up fine and I can then switch on the modem without
further problems. Help please !

you amy find that switching the broadband off is what is doing it, if leave
it on at all times does it do the same thing.
what happens is that the moden checks connection to the server and while
doing so most probebly causes something called back EMF
(Elecro-Moytive-Force) and this with the ustability of the computer EMF is
enough to cuase a restart. i had this problem with PICs comunicting with PICs

Would I be right in suggesting that your modem is usb ?

If so mine used to always do that as well, not too sure why though ?

Purchased a d-link wireless router since so I can share with a laptop also -
worth every penny, no niggly problems. And, a better download speed - spot
on !

Cheers, Kev

Thanks Craig. No, it still won't boot-up, even if I leave the modem switched
on. I have to turn it off to boot-up.

Thanks Kevin. No, I'm not using USB. I'm connected via an ethernet cable.
I only use a desktop PC so don't need wireless connection. Any other
thoughts?
