Hi,My Pc was supplied with three cd's to re-install XP.I was advised to
create bootable disks to asist with the re-install incase my cd drive fails
to boot XP.Can anyone offer advice on how to create these disks, and if my cd
drive fails, then how to amend the bios so the Pc boots from the floppy
instead.Hopefully if the worse happpens my Pc should work with the 3
cd's....But you never know.Many thanks,Cheers,Mike

In the machines BIOS just set the boot device order to suit your needs
e.g. Floppy then CD then HDD ( this is a common choice)

Hi All,I have just checked the links that were supplied, but there are
different boot disks for XP,XPSP1 and XPSP2.I have checked my restore cd's
for info regarding what version I have.No informative info to assist.SP1 was
pre-installed ,does this mean I use XPSP1 boot disks?.Sorry for asking yet
another question.Many thanks,Mike

Boot disks went the way of the Dodo along with Win9X, you have OEM
restore CDs then just use them should the need arise.
If your optical drive fails get a new one there inexpensive, don't worry
about messing with diskettes [what happens if your A: drive fails too].
If your real concern is about loosing data in the event of a catastopic
crash, get a third party imaging program and learn to use it, Norton Ghost
and BootITNG are both excelent.

To obtain xp boot disks:
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=310994
or
http://www.bootdisk.com/

I, for various reasons, have the boot order set up to
1) Floppy
2) CD
3) HDD

I would also note that a CDROM or DVD drive can be purchased for
around US$30.

My guess, and I reiterate "my guess", is that if your machine came with
SP1 the your restore CDs will most probably be SP1.

I have checked some of the OEM CDs I have and have found that the SP1
CDs have a file creation date of 29/08/2002, SP1a 31/03/2003 and SP2
4/08/2004 this may help in determining what SP your disks are.
