XP / BIOS Reboot Problem

Hi,

i've got trouble with rebooting my system. Every time i try to restart
Windows, the BIOS hangs in POST before HD-autodetect. If i just shutdown
the computer and turn it back on later the symptoms are the same. The
system is _not_ completely disconnected from power (-> the power module is
still on, the plug in the socket) whe i switch it off.
After a cold-boot (pushing the reset-button) everything is running normal.

Now, usually i'd say that this a hardware-related problem. Some trouble with
the harddisks maybe, or some compatibility trouble with the mainboard. But,
and this is a big but, i've got a parallel install of Linux and there
aren't any problems. I can reboot without any hangs. So, it definitely
isn't bad hardware.

Any ideas what went wrong ?

System:
Abit AN8 SLI Fatality
AMD 3200+ Venice
2GB RAM
2* NVidia XFX 6600GT
550W power module
Windows XP with SP2 and all patches
fw enabled, viriiscanner F-Prot
MRT & Windows Defender installed & running

Could it be CMOS Battery is going bad replace it with a new one. Another, try
to BOOT without any hardware attached to your Computer (Etra Hardware) and
see what will produce the problem.
Hope this helps

CMOS bat is okay, just 1/2 a year old and full voltage, battery contacts are
o.k. too.
First thing i did was pulling off all external hardware, no difference
there.

Thanx!
