I'm seeing the same problem. Glad I'm not the only one!
Neither NTBackup (native pro backup by veritas) or Backup MyPC (veritas
bought out by Stomp, Inc. (now Stompsoft) works...
We're just hanging in the breeze, Jerr...
There is "definately" something that got "broken" in SP2 in the backup
department.
Hopefully a fix will be available in short order. I talked to Stompsoft and
they are aware and have been getting reports. They recommended rolling back,
something I'm not too keen on doing. There are a lot of good fixes in SP2.
I am having the same problem on my work system. Ntbackup initializes but
immediately fails, the file to be written shows 2k file size. This is the
same no matter what external drive is chosen. This error is only on backing
up the local system. Ntbackup works fine when backing up a system across the
network, I do that on my server daily and on a weekly master. I have a
feeling it is in the security settings which XPSP2 ramps up, I have tried to
adjust the firewall to allow Ntbackup as an exception but same failure. I
have also tried adjusting the rights for the drive under manage to allow my
user under all situations but still same error.
After SP2 Installation Volume shadow copy fails, therefore backup fails, I
have tried native Microsoft backup that Worked prior to sp2, no good, also
veritas with the new patches is no good. No extended error message is
unavailable. Does anyone know what's wrong and how to fix this problem?
