Hi: I have requested NG 10.0 at work on my XP Pro machine. Our IT
guys are asking me why the builtin XP backup tool won't suffice. Thats
a good question and I'm asking you guys. How do the two compare and
why would I need NG 10.0 over the built in XP Backup (A
ccessories\System Tools\Backup)?

thanks,
russ

Hi,

Any decent backup tool can work outside of the OS. Something that's critical
if the OS flops over. MSBackup cannot do this, it only provides for an ASR
disk.

Tell them that as is typical of the toy programs that come bundled with XP,
the "backup tool" is a piece of shit. If they don't know why, ask them how
they became "IT guys".

Thanks for the help. What does ASR stand for?

I was given a reason today that they are concerned with "piracy and
licensing" issues. I'm guessing they are afraid someone might clone a
HD and sell the machine as well as infringement issues with our
software. I wouldn't think a software vendor would have a problem with
a backup copy - as long as it isn't being used actively.

thanks,

Hi,

An ASR is the Automated System Recovery disk, and it can be created as part
of the MSBackup.

As to ghost, they are probably more worried about someone distributing out
licensed copies of ghost than about cloning existing systems.
