XP Backup utility

Does anyone know how to get the XP Backup Utility found in under Properties
& Tools to recognize the D:\ drive as backup option instead of the 3 1/2
floppy?

It defaults to the floppy and shows no way of my CD-RW drive as an option.

Thanks.

Hi,

When you use the backup utility, in the wizard you should get a screen that
has the option "choose a place to save your back up: " I see that in my
backup utilities for XP Pro SP2. Also from reading from other posts, I
don't think you can designate a CD-RW as a drive to back up, but can
designate another hard drive or network drive, then from there back it up to
CD.

Ntbackup will not backup to CDRW unless 3rd party CD burning software is
installed and even then will only write one CD. It will not span CDs.
There should be an option to create the backup on another drive, though.
The ASR function requires a floppy disk, but the main backup file is
not put on floppy.

You can only use a CD drive as output media if you get a third party
'packet writing' package like DirectCD or InCD. The inbuilt burning
does not work in that mode. (see http://aumha.org/win5/a/xpcd.htm) In
any case, even if you do, NTBackup will not recognise it as 'removable'
so will not span over more than one disk. It is really a tape based
package, brought forward for the benefit of those transferring tape
systems from NT
