xp back up utility problem

Hi,
I have got a tape drive which I think works fine. If I give a new tape
and apply a label to it, the scheduled task will run fine, but if I
insert a new tape with no label in it, it will just come up with a
screen saying "mouting the media", and the screen just dissapears.

does anyone have any ideas as to what is going wrong here?

What is the make and model of your tape drive? Please also supply a driver
version if possible.
