Hello, does anyone know how to stop programs from auto
launching at start up when running XP?

Depends on where they are 'launced" from.
The obvious one would be, from the Startup program group, but I suppose you
found that one and it is easyli remedied, just remove the shortcut from the
program group.
There are however other locations that programs can be 'launched' from.

You can use the System Configuration Utility (MSConfig) from the Help And
Support, Tools section and have a look through the WIN.INI, SYSTEM.INI,
Services and Startup tabs to find your 'culprit'.
Combine that with http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm, (line 148,
right side and line 261, left side)

One (comprehensive one) would be Autostart Viewer
(http://www.diamondcs.com.au/index.php?page=asviewer), but you have to be
*very* careful not to get swamped with the information presented with that
one. You *can* however get rid of references to auto-start stuff from the
registry with that one.

And google will surely provide with others like Autostart Viewer
