Hello everyone,

i'm rohit from India, needed a little help urgently from the forum. i'm
using Win-XP Prof. on an AMD Athlon machine. Since the last 2 days, the OS
has been automatically closing my windows & programs and it attempts to shut
down the comp (But is not able to, it reaches to the point where the small
screen pops up, where the 3 options, viz. Sleep, Shut down & Restart are
provided). The attempts to shut down occur very quickly but never does the
comp. actually shut down by itself. Also this behavior is not consistent and
does not happen everytime.
I've scanned my comp with trend micro & Symantec, have deleted some files,
but this still happens.
Not too sure if this is some virus or some problem with the OS.
Request for some urgent help regarding the nature of the problem & the
possible solution.
Thanks a ton..

Thanks & Warm Regards,
rohit

If you run Windows in "safe mode" is it stable or will it still try to shut
down? If it runs in safe mode ok, start looking at what you have changed
recently. have you installed a new driver or piece of hardware recently?

Look at the Event viewer. What does the event viewer show at the time of
shut down?

is your PC over-heating? Is there a lot of dust or dirt clogging your
machine? Do you have it in a well ventilated area? If you machine is
over-heating it will try to shut down.
