computer shuts down by itself XP Home

I bought this note book just 2 months back. I was trying to copy video from
sony camcorder to the pc thru the firewire pcmcia card a couple of days ago.
It was working fine then suddenly this shutdown problem started.

When I restarted, it would start and again shut off by itself without any
warning or any windows shutting down music. Also, whenever I am using any
application, same thing happens i.e. just shuts down, but not immediately,
after some time.

Then I left it on over night after fixing the power options and it did not
shut off!!

So, now I am totally confused as to where do I look for this problem and how
do I fix it? However, I feel its something to do with the operating memory
somewhere...but will this shut down the computer mysteriously? A lot of cache
or RAM is used when copying video into PC.

Pls advice.

Sorry;I overlooked that you have XP Home. You don't need to go through
the KB Article, which is specific for XP Pro.

Have you checked at the Event Viewer?
Control Panel>Administrative Tools>Event Viewer>Application.

If you have XP Professional then:-
Description of the Shutdown Event Tracker

The CPU is probably overheating. Return it while it is still under warranty
and get it fixed.
