Xp applications not closing

-- I want to re install or fix the operating system, but my current version
is newer than the original disk due to updates I suppose. I cannnot re
install from scratch based on the disks. Any suggestions. Thx

Yes you can, rather than starting the install from within Windows, boot from
the Xp CD.
 
Sorry David B., I am new at this, how do I boot from CD. I did go to the boot
processes by pressing F12 at boot up time but it asks me what kind of windows
installation I want. Confused. Thanks for the response anyway

When your computer starts, you should see something like SetUp F2 or
Del. This will take you into the BIOS of your motherboard where you can
change the boot order to boot from the CD first.
