XP anguish

While working in an application, all of a sudden, windows
open and close randomly leaving me no mouse or keyboard
control. After 20 to 30 seconds it stops and I once again
have control. This is seriously interrupting my work! Any
suggestions appreciated...

I've seen this happen if you have a microphone connected, and it is active.
Your system may be set up for speech recognition, and random sounds or
noises are causing the machine to interpret these as input, or commands!
This happened on my Daughter's system,and after I muted the microphone, the
problem disappeared!
It may be a long shot, but it is worth a try...
