xp and xppro network problem

OK, after 3 days of trying to do this own my own, I need to do some work.
Therefore, I'll pass this along and see what ya'll think. I have xppro on
"kevin" and xphe on "kids" pc's. Both are sp2. I used the wizards on both to
setup my network. Both accesses web via cable modem through linksys wired
router. Everything seems to be fine except that kevin will not recognize
kids. I can ping all day long from kids to kevin with no problems. Pinging
the other way works as well. I can ping websites and the router from both. I
can access kevin from the cmd prompt from kids. I cannot access kids from
kevin, tho. Both show up in workgroup view on both computers, but I can only
access the computers from kids. From kevin I can only open kevin. When I open
kids I get the error: "\\Kids is not available. You may not have permission
to use this network resource. Contact the administrator.... Logon failue:
User has not been granted the requested logon type at this computer." All
shared folders are visible on kids, but only kevins shares are visible on
kevin. I have tried several hundred fixes. Shutdown all firewalls, antivirus,
all processes, turned on and off services. Turned Guest accounts on, then
off. Turned of simple file sharing on xppro, then went to safe mode and added
Everyone to kids pc security settings. Tried removing and reinstalling
different network protocols. (plus things I don't rememner) The only thing I
can think of that I have not tried is chunking the router, but if it works
one direction, I would think it works the other. A couple of notes. It
appears that xppro may be controlling windows firewall on xphe. (or I have
virus spyware issue - but it has been cleaned by several programs) Firewal is
off and says group policy is controlling it. Since there is no group policy
on he, I assume pro must be involved. It is et to off, so I don't think its
the networking problem. O, yeah, I have also created user names with same
name and password; tho it seems silly to have to do that. Sorry for the
length. Thanks, kp

The problem is probably caused by incorrect user rights assignments on
the "kids" pc. Run XP's Network Setup Wizard on that computer --
that's often all that's needed.

If that doesn't fix the problem follow these steps on the "kids" pc:

1. Download and install the Windows 2003 Server Resource Kit Tools
from http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=4544 .

2. Click Start | All Programs | Windows Resource Kit Tools | Command
Shell.

3. Type these lines at the command prompt. The second and third
commands are case-sensitive, so type them exactly as shown. Note the
"+r" in the second one and the "-r" in the third one:

net user guest /active:yes
ntrights +r SeNetworkLogonRight -u Guest
ntrights -r SeDenyNetworkLogonRight -u Guest
